npm package download history

npmpulse charts the download counts npm publishes for every package — one package, or up to eight compared side by side — from its first data day in 2015 through yesterday.

npm's downloads API returns at most 549 days for a single package and 365 days when several are compared, and it truncates an over-long range rather than refusing it. That is why most download charts stop about 18 months back. npmpulse requests the whole span in chunks and stitches the answers together, so one chart can run from 2015 to today.

The counts are npm's own and include CI and mirror traffic, so they measure installs rather than people. Days npm lost entirely are interpolated, the flat run of zeros before a package was first published is trimmed, and the last day or two — which npm has not finalised — is dropped. Each adjustment is counted and shown on the chart rather than applied quietly.

Every view is a URL, so a link you copy shows the same chart to whoever opens it. /api/svg returns that chart as an SVG that keeps itself current in a README.
